When I first started sourcing a dozen or so years ago I remember the namby-pambiness of my sourcing. Afraid to rock the boat, I shied away from asking too many questions of my information sources, afraid I’d hear something that I didn’t want to hear. If I was on a trail I didn’t want that trail to end in a dead-end or even be broken. In the early days, I heard what I wanted to hear!

Soon I came to realize this wasn’t going to cut the mustard – results that hadn’t been fully checked were getting me into a whole lotta’ trouble! In fact, it can be said that I was fired from my first sourcing job as a result of my hesitant, scaredy-cat practices! Nobody ever actually said, “You’re fired!” but the work stopped coming.
