I have been in the recruiting industry since 2002 and am convinced that recruiting makes you nuts. I don't know what it is about this business, but it seems to drive everyone mad.

Is it because we deal with people on a daily basis and because of those interactions we lose ourselves? How many times have you had a candidate lie to you? Tell you to your face one thing and then completely do the other. How about the temporary candidate whose Grandmother has died 6 times in the past 6 months?

I currently work with a number of people in a boutique environment that used to work together for a large public firm. We all believed that things would be different here. They're not.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE what I do and I can't see myself doing anything else. Maybe you just don't get into this business unless your crazy in the first place.

I'm sure we could spend hours, days, weeks even months one-upping each other on the crazy things candidates have done... Might be fun!

yah, sometimes you want to jump of the building and on other days, you seriously consider buying the building. it's that kind of business. You stick a carton of coke in a truck on it;'s way to texas, it can't tell you it's to hot there. a person on the other hand is very comfortable saying no.

Very true. The good days do make up for the bad.... How is everyone out there feeling about the market? We haven't seen any negative effects yet - I'm curious to hear how other markets are feeling with the recession news coming out.

I think you need to be crazy in order to be a good recruiter :-) I know that I am "crazy for recruiting!"

I couldn't agree more with all the comments. You have to be a little crazy to be in this business and if your good there aren't many jobs out there where you can earn 25k commission on a 100k salary candidate. The market in a Los Angeles is a bit sluggish the housing market has finally caught up here. Still a shortage of quality accounting/finance candidates. I have a feeling this year will continue along this road. I think we should get a spike in temp very soon. Have fun out there.
