7 questions YOU should ask before any career move

This morning a saw a lady walking her 3 legged dog and 2 minutes later another lady pushing a very young man in a wheel chair. This got me thinking on "how lucky I am, me and my family", as we are healthy and happy. But then, I realized I do not know if these people are happy or not, maybe they are happier than we are; content end enjoying life. They were actually having a nice walk and getting some fresh air when I was on my way to work.

We should compare this with our professional lives, we could think we have a good career or on the contraire, we do not know if it is really greener on the other side.

There some questions YOU should ask yourself, if you are thinking on making a career move:

  1. What are the reasons I want to make a move? Make a list
  2. Are these things variables that you can affect or make a change?
  3. Have you try to change them?
  4. Have you ask your Manager for an increase or a promotion?
  5. After making a list of the 5 most important things to have in your job/career, compare with the list in question #1 (reasons to leave your job) How many are in both lists?
  6. What would happen if you leave? (how would you affect the company's plans?)
  7. What would happen to YOU if you leave (financially and career wise)?
