Can you look at yourself in the mirror?

Can you look at yourself in the mirror?

Long ago I made a promise to myself. I promised myself I would live by 4 simple rules.

  1. I would never do or say anything that would make me not like the person I see when looking in the mirror
  2. I would not  do or say nothing that I would not be willing to share with my wife and kids
  3. I would always work in a job that made me excited to go to every morning.
  4. I would always treat others the way I want to be treated.

These seem strange but they are really more about ethics, honesty and integrity, and wanting to be a good role model for my kids. Having grown up in a family that invented the word dysfunctional, I swore early on that my family would not be and it all starts with me.

As long as I do not do or say anything I would be ashamed to tell my kids I know I am doing the right thing, treating others well, and setting a good example. It also means I am being honest, and ethical in my work. I am treating others the way I want to be treated and in the end that is what matters most. Treating those around you well. Treat others well and they will treat you well, in you work and personal life.
