With the country having gone into recession, many people are taking the decision to relocate elsewhere. After several miserable, almost non-existent summers, warmer climates are looking more appealing than ever to potential emigrates. With a strong economy and beautiful weather, Dubai is a popular destination to move to.
Why Dubai?
In recent years, Dubai has become a highly fashionable place to live and to holiday. Celebrities visit for the scorching temperatures and luxurious hotels, while companies are moving there as the emirate becomes a strong contender for big business. The country has undergone extensive development over the past few years and is still emerging as it becomes a cultural and business hub of the Middle East. The economy strongly relies on real estate and financial services, meaning the earning potential of the region is strong.
With ambitious, show-stopping constructions including the world's tallest building and man-made islands, Dubai is a cosmopolitan emirate with huge potential for further development. The oil industry was the founding backbone of the economy but it has since spread out to other industries, further adding to the opportunities available.
Getting a job
The amount of job vacancies in Dubai is a key reason for people deciding to move there. The appeal of tax-free earnings is also an attractive prospect. IT manager jobs in Dubai may be easy to come by as a lot of the main economy is from office-based industries including the banking and financial sectors. Financial advisors may also find it easy to get work in the emirate with such a booming industry.
The global housing market crash affected Dubai but it appears to have recovered considerably quicker than many other countries, with the real estate market currently being in a strong position. The fact that the region was able to recover so effectively could be a sign of the efficiency of the running of Dubai. This is another strong selling point for some people. The rise of unemployment levels in the UK has found many people desperate for work. If you are prepared to move abroad, the prospects of Dubai are very appealing, particularly if you have been out of work for some time.
Fitting in with the culture
Obviously moving to another part of the world is a huge transition and it takes time to fit into a new place. Understanding the culture and general background of the region can make it slightly easier to settle in. Although English is a second language in Dubai, learning Arabic before you leave can help in the long-term. It's also worth reading up on local traditions and culture, as well as understanding the religious beliefs of Dubai.
The laws are different to the UK so having a good knowledge of them may save you from unintentionally breaking one when you arrive. Being respectful to the local people is also recommended. For example, dressing modestly and covering your shoulders and knees is expected, particularly if you move there during Ramadan. Don't expect to drink alcohol on the streets and be able to behave in the same way as you may have done in the UK. Embracing the local cultures and traditions can make your time there enjoyable and also reduce the stress related to emigrating.
