A general guidance any jobseeker gets before attending an interview is to be confident. A question which arises in the job seeker’s mind is whether it is really that important. Is it not enough to possess the skill set for the job and be good with your technical knowledge? There cannot be a one word answer to this question. These are actually inter-related matters. Sometimes you can be lucky to crack an interview without having great technical knowledge but being confident enough. There can be some such instances but not all are lucky enough. Sometimes you can have good technical knowledge but may not clear an interview due to your lower confidence levels. Hence not only for an interview but at any stage of life, your confidence levels play a major role in deciding the outcome. So building up your confidence is a must in today’s competitive world.
Let us consider the case of cracking an interview. You need to have ample technical knowledge good enough to crack any interview related to your field. Will that be enough? You may know the answer to the question the interviewer asks but you must be confident enough to present it in the right way. This fear and lack of confidence is what is holding you back. The fear automatically vanishes once you build up confidence. From an interview prospective, there are few ways which can help you gain confidence. Improve your knowledge in your technical aspect. You do not need to know everything but should know to an extent which can help you crack an interview. Going through the interview questions both technical and non-technical ones posted in websites and blogs online can always be handy. Preparing these questions will give you some idea of how the interview can be. You must be mentally prepared that the interviewer can ask you any question and not just those you prepared. This will avoid you from sudden panicking in an interview. Be confident in what you know and dare to say no politely to the answers you do not know. Do not try to manage giving some cover up answer.
Rather than putting a question ‘can I do it’ better think ‘why can’t I do it’. This can surely make huge difference to your confidence. Confidences come only when you start believing in yourself. Be very careful not to end up being over confident in the process of trying to be confident. Being confident is the feeling that ‘I can do it’ and over confidence is ‘only I can do it’. Once you start believing in yourself, you can personally see the positive energy that has started flowing within you. With this new found energy and proper hard work, you can achieve great height in your career.
