How to Show Your SuperStar Employees More Appreciation

According to a recent Forbes article, over 40 percent of people quit their jobs due to lack of recognition. Regularly expressing appreciation to employees is an excellent way to reduce turnover and increase employee work satisfaction and when you recognize some of your most superstar employees you keep morale high and positive. Below are four great options to show more appreciation to your employees that go above and beyond.

Appreciation from the Bottom Up
Employee appreciation typically comes in the form of formal recognition from management like a plaque or picture on the Employee of the Month wall. Instead, consider involving fellow employees in the appreciation process. A grassroots approach to employee appreciation is an excellent way to foster a culture of respect and teamwork. For example, designate a group of employees to be in charge of awarding a collective customer service trophy to an outstanding employee. They can keep the trophy on their desk for a month until they help choose the next recipient. This gives team members a better way to connect and recognize each other’s strengths.

Individualize Appreciation
While it’s important to be fair, consider tailoring employee appreciation according to the individual. Certain employees will look forward to being praised in public, while others will feel embarrassed. Consider using alternate formats with a standardized reward. For example, employees could be rewarded during meetings, through email, or even face-to-face in private. If gifts are given, consider using a standard amount and allowing the employee to choose their gift.

Avoid Scheduling Recognition
Most companies typically save employee recognition for large meetings. As a result, employees and management are usually in a hurry to get back to work or watching the clock. Consider taking an impromptu approach to employee appreciation and avoid waiting to express appreciation. Instead, immediately recognize the employee as soon as good work is done. This will encourage positive conversations about what the employee did and build synergy in the workplace.

Customized Business Name Tags
Consider offering superstar employees the chance to design their own customized company name tags. This will be a constant reminder to the superstar employees and their co-workers that go above and beyond their regular duties. It doesn’t just result in a one-time recognition, allowing for top performing employees to encourage other employees to perform well by example. A company like Naag Tag name tags can help you set up special shaped tags for customization.

Employee recognition, individualized appreciation, impromptu responses and customized gifts are excellent ways to reward your superstar employees. Building up your teams is as easy as showing more support and recognition to the employees who really deserve some more attention.
