Recent research published by www.Boston.com in collaboration with Monster identified the top 10 in-demand jobs across Massachusetts. Among jobs in retail, marketing, wholesale and manufacturing occupations, salespeople, or registered nurses, half of the open positions are Information Technology related. The top four are:

1. Information Technology Project Managers – Number of openings: 1,291. Average Massachusetts salary: $134,380 Employers continually seek seasoned professionals with a high level of business acumen for Project Managers and Technical and non-technical Solution Architects to fill mission critical, often client facing positions. Project management professional certifications are among the top five certifications in demand with the globally recognized Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certificationone of the most valuable additions to a project manager’s credentials to increase their marketability and earning potential.
2. Computer System Analysts – Number of openings: 1,799. Average Massachusetts salary: $88,710 Increased demand for computer system analysts is largely being driven by the healthcare industries fast paced push into electronic medical record systems. 3. Computer Programmers – Number of openings: 2,594. Average Massachusetts salary: $90,620
   Computer programmers are an essential part of today’s economy across all industries. Despite outsourcing, the demand for on-site professional programmers remains high in tech-heavy Massachusetts. In addition to two to four years of work-related skills, related industry knowledge, or comparable business experience is always a big plus to a hiring manager. Educational qualifications such as a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology are typically required. Eligible candidates must also have working experience with operating systems like  Linux, Unix, Windows, Mac, Apache, or Azure, and Programming Languages like  COBOL, PASCLE, C, C++, Java, VB (Visual Basic), .Net, C#, VB.net, or C#.net. 
4. Software Application Developers - Number of openings: 3,662. Average Massachusetts salary: $98,400
