What do metal slides, alien pods, pool tables, and zebra print beanbags have in common? They are the things you can see at Google's work environment. With more than 70 Google offices expanding over 40 countries around the world. Each office has their own personality.
If you were to talk with a Google employee it would be common to hear how much job satisfaction there is. How can that be with so many employees and offices in different locations? Every employee is valued and encouraged to express themselves. The idea is that if you feel good you will be more productive and loyal to the task at hand.
Google is onto something, in 2012 they were given the title "Happiest Company In America" again. Employees have it all free food, massage room, yoga, and more. All they have to do is spend at least 20% of their time on a project of their choosing.
Besides all that glamour, Google does something more. They hire talented and driven employees, go-getters. Then reward them by concentrating on their well-being. Employees want trust in their team, pride, appreciation, and fairness wrapped in a comfortable workspace.
While most companies cannot afford the perks as Google, they can keep track of your job satisfaction. In fact there is an app for that and it is called morale.me. You can post monthly anonymously how you feel about your job. Easy and on the go.
Figuring out an employee's needs can be simple. Take advice from the co-author of the Fortune "100 Best Companies to Work For", Milton Moskowitz. He states "Sit down and talk with your employees. Ask them what they want."
