S.a.a.S (Software as a Service) is the evolution of the next generation web tools, which is catching the attention of everyone in the HR industry. With the promise of lower TCO (total cost of ownership) and a turnkey solution, giants such as MasterCard are shifting to HR-SaaS solution providers such as SuccessFactors for employee evaluation services.
The charm of low cost integration is fueling the fire of the SaaS revolution. Traditionally, on-premise applications have required additional IT infrastructure including servers, database and a logistical nightmare for a secure remote access, all of which would need to be approved by multiple review committees and executive approval to justify the investment cost.

In contrast, by avoiding the incremental infrastructure costs and eliminating the ongoing administrative resources of traditional on-premise applications, SaaS surpasses the functionality of on-premise solutions by providing a more robust service available through web-based access, there by significantly lowering the integration cost.

MasterCard’s was able to move very quickly to a third party SaaS model because the HR department funded the integration as a business expenses rather than a capital investment.

As the global economy emerges out of the global crisis HR industry will see an emergence of smart SaaS that provide value innovation and modernize the industry. One area of the industry that will see value innovation is talent assessment. The current leaders in talent assessment charge exorbitant amounts for their service, making it accessible to a select few. The majority of these assessment services are paper-based which increase the administrative costs of testing.

Those assessment services that do use an automated service are not designed to accommodate any customization requests of the hiring managers. All of these factors significantly limit screening abilities and the analysis provided on each candidate is in most cases irrelevant to what is needed for the optimal productivity of the job. The lack of scalable automation allows talent assessment firms to charge heavily for their services.

To answer the call of frustrated hiring manager, HireLabs, a company that grew out of Stanford University has created a SaaS-based talent assessment solution which assists the HR department in their screening and selection process. This new web-based SaaS allows hiring managers to customize their assessments, which means that now hiring managers can choose the tests and the difficulty level that they want their candidates to take. Since it’s a web based application, hiring managers are able to create all types of comparative analysis reports, which allows them to compare several candidates and assess each individual’s strengths and weakness. The robust graphs and charts make the selection process more refined.

The Silicon Valley based company has brought scalability to talent assessments. With its SaaS-based talent assessment solution, HireLabs now works diligently with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), job boards, and other HRMIS in serving hiring managers during the recruitment process.

This is made possible when HRMIS providers download and install the talent assessment API (Application Programs Interface) and provide all HR departments with a wealth of tests. Since the talent assessment API is also built as a SaaS, the HR department can access all the features and functionality of talent assessment directly from the ATS.

Now that the SaaS revolution has started, keep an eye out for several extremely useful applications such as talent assessment solution. The HR industry has usually been late in adopting smart technology, but as the global economic recovery gets into full swing HR is well positioned to make up for lost time
