Sourcecon 2013: Building a Global Sourcing Team: Making the Business Case for Sourcing
This Session was on making a case for creating a global sourcing team. Melissa Harper of Monsanto ran this session. One of the key slides of this presentation was on the availability of Skilled workers over the next 20 years. This slide showed that India would have a surplus of 47 million skilled worked over the next 20 years, while the US would have e deficit of 17 million. Now of course this is an estimate and these numbers could change. However still that is a difference of over 64 million. She goes on to outline how to make a business case for a global sourcing team. Her basic premise is below:
Later she would go on to talk about the differences between traditional recruiting and Social recruiting. And then shows her Recruiting Maturity Model below:
This is an interesting concept that while is nothing earth shattering as many have done what she proposes, it is interesting to see her take on it. She later goes on to map out the relationship between Centers of Excellence (COE), recruiting, operations and HR compliance all of which represent the pillars of this concept. She further outlines her plan, the methodology and more. This all culminates in her slide entitled “Creating a Talent Mindset Culture”.
Overall this was a good presentation, a lot of information, and a lot of thought provoking statements and facts. I can see how having a global sourcing team is important, however in my experience as a sourcer I can be based right where I am at and source for anyone anywhere in the world. So having a global sourcing team is important were they are located is up for debate.
