This kind of recruiting is truly not for the recruiting professionals

I'm not opposed to offering some type of incentive to serve or secure a customer. But when I see these cheap Internet sites like Dyak coming along and wanting us to work for 8 % or less, not collecting fees for 90 days and without any type of commuication, I am appalled at what they are trying to drive this industry level down to.

For 23 years I have been a proud recruiter and although things are tough I would rather close my doors than work at bottom feeder levels.

I truly respect all the comments in this and other blogs. WE are a value added service to the business public and WE as a profession, do rank up there with the doctors, attorneys and CPA's of the world. Hold your heads proud and sell the quality of your service. Don't hide your head in the sand, but get out front and lead. When the so called recovery comes, you will be on point and everybody else will be playing catch up.

Regards to all and here's to a tremendous 2009!

Hi George,

I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of the role of the Professional Recruiter. I also have seen the demand for recruiting ebb and flow with the business cycle several times. One constant that I have found to be true is that quality service is not a commodity and shouldn’t be priced like one.

Just as I didn’t believe it was right to inflate fees during the tech boom in the 90’s, I believe that discounting fees based on slow economic conditions is equally misguided.
