After taking a few days to recover from the madness that is Tru, here are my thoughts and what I took away. Once again I was not disappoint and spent 3 days in the Tru bubble where I met some really interesting people from across the global.
In an industry that isn’t always that sharing Tru is a truly a collaborative event, which over the last 3 years seems to have built a great ever evolving and maturing community which will hopefully continue to grow and welcome new people in. There is so much knowledge there from across the industry from agency, in-house, suppliers, consultants and RPO’s it is hard not to engage in great discussions. London is also the home of Tru and no matter how many countries it is held in, London will always be unique.
I am going to disagree with some people who have written about Tru London recently and say the conversation has moved on. No longer was it about should I do social or how to do social,the conversations have evolved which you could see by the tracks that were led with contents playing a big part. No longer is it theory there are some people doing some seriously cool stuff and there were some great examples and case studies such as RMS. My lack of tweeting throughout the 2 days was not because I had nothing to say but instead that I was too busy listening.
As a newbie at the last Tru, it can seem daunting as it isn’t like the stuffy boring conferences I’m sure some of us have been to. It’s great to see new people come in and find their voice almost immediately with there never being a shortage of opinions. I’m not going to say that it will be life changing if you attend but it will make you think, inspire you to think outside of the box and make some new contacts.
Bar tracks – Some of the best conversation’s you will have are in the bar either during the day or in the evenings before and after. As we all know recruiters like a drink and in the bar you will find more chilled conversations as well as lots of banter. It’s a great chance to catch up with people but also to chat to people you might not meet in your everyday work.
Top people I met - Paul Harrison who led a really interesting track on the changing face of social.
Paul Jacobs – Great to hear about some of the fantastic stuff he has been doing with Deloitte in New Zealand.
#truLondon is an idea-generator/incubator – more so than other #truevents I’ve attended
Laurie Ruettimann – having been reading her blog for the last year it was lovely to put a face to the name.
Girls make career decisions as early as age 9 –

I’ve now had two very different Tru experience and am now looking forward to Tru Amsterdam to see how the Dutch do it.
