Jim - Excellent topic and great guest.  Enjoyed Gerry's perspective on sourcing/recruiting numbers.  We all realize this isn't an exact science, however, Gerry's and Mark's research provide telling trends.

Jim, well worth the 17 minutes. The Godfather makes a lot of sense.

" I liked his comment on overlap of Phone+Job Board+Social Media+Referral all tools used in recruiting and its getting tougher to separate them".

Employers want to reduce spending on Some Job Boards and get more social. Here is the catch, the biggest player in Social Media for Recruiters (Linkedin) is actually being used as a Job Board...thats interesting.

Keep it simple is my takeaway and that is what all the tools should be trying to achieve..

@ suresh...I know much is hyped about it but is LinkedIn really an effective hiring tool (sans a job board?).  Check this out.  700 employers were interviewed about their hiring sources in 2011.  The results may surprise you.

@chris, what amused me is that Gerry's comment about how linkedin is being used by employers. For all the talk about Social Media it is being turned into a job board in essence.

Indeed is doing well, because they are probably the most cost effective other than niche job boards.
