What makes you more employable in 2010 #8 Networking

Today we are discussing trait #8 networking, to make you more employable in 2010.

Networking is essentially getting to know other people, their abilities, and interests for the mutual benefit of each other. It brings that saying “It’s not what you know, but who you know that gets you the gig” so true. Connecting with the right people is more important today then ever before.

In this age of cut throat competition, effective networking is indispensable for your professional growth. It not only helps you to grow professionally, but can help the organisation you work for grow too. Your “network” has an amazing influence on results you may achieve, people in your network can be as close as family or friends, and extend to past and present co-workers, bosses, colleagues from business associations, or your online acquaintances.

We at SMStheJob realise the importance of networking and meet with both employers and employee reach each individuals needs.

An ability to develop and maintain a broad network of business friendships is a critical skill for every career professional. Examiner.com has a great article on “Highly Effective Networking” which can help you optimally utilise professional networking to improve your employability.

Effective networking goes a long way in building your professional image and helping you climb up the corporate ladder.

Time for some home-work…

According to Socialblog three-quarters of hiring managers use LinkedIn to research the credentials of job candidates. So if you don’t have a profile on LinkedIn, create one.

Also make sure that everywhere you travel you carry business cards, even if you are unemployed at the moment you can obtain some free cards from Vistaprint – this can be a professional statement about what you are looking for.

So until next time…
