What's new vs. What did you forget to do

It's funny, people are always asking me about what I see inside my crystal ball, where are things headed in the market or what's hot? They seem to be intersted in the newest tricks, places to go on the web, social networks and how to find the best talent. My first thought is usually that before you do anything new you have to first look at all the tricks and tools you already have.

The truth is that I really don't have anything new to tell people about. Most of my thoughts and information have some from things I have already done, book I have read, experiences that have taught me valuable lessons. One of my favorite business books for example is In Search of Excellence by Tom Peters, which was published in 1982. Nothing new here but lots to learn...

Sure, your can start a twitter account, a facebook page, or start your own blog but do you know how to search on Google for what you need? Are you using RSS feeds to push out your content to multiple places? Have you searched your own database before going out to the job boards? Today in our Albin Engeering sales meeting I talked about the importance of time managment and having balance. It amazes me how many people start their day without a plan. We also talked about the importance of training and learning new things or practicing to improve and yet again many people rarely take time out to read a book or take a webinar.

Think about it...
