I know lots of people that only have one way to handle situations. In today's business world it takes flexibity and creativity to build relationships, to win new business and to keep your clients happy.

Basically most recruiting and staffing professional do the same things as each other so how do you stand out? What makes your company different?

As a recruiter you have to have a great reputation in your industry, with your clients and your candidates. Going through all the steps in a process is not enough anymore. Clients and Candidates want to be catered to and expect more. Yesterday for example my CEO, Marc Albin and I, along with Ryan one of our top recruiters went over to visit a customer. They asked us to help them with something that they knew we were experts in but there was not a placement to be made. We went out of our way to show up and hit the ball out of the park, we delivered over their expectations and everybody who attended the meeting left very happy. You have to look for opportunity to be a hero in their eyes.

People recognize when others go out of their way or over and above to help them. I know I do. How do you take care of your clients or candidates? What are the special things that you do? How does that make others feel about you?

There are many ways to stand out and to create what some have called "fans" from your contacts. First off you have to have a positive attitude about dealing with difficult issues. It is hard to set yourself to be different if you can't figure out how to solve a problem. Not everybody knows exactly what they are looking for so you have to help them figure it out. You can't give your prescription if you have not done a proper diagnosis. It's easy to differentiate yourself if you actually do everything you say you will do since most people quite simply don't.

Finally I think that you have to maintain a stellar reputation. Your reputation proceeds you and it is all you really have so never compromise it. If you are a recruiter then keep all your doors open and maintain your relationships with clients and candidates alike. If you make a commitment then keep it. Deliver on your promises, work hard, be honest and treat people the same way as you want to be treated.

Happy Monday, I hope you have a great week!

Good post. Reputation is important. People want to work for and do business with companies that have a good clean image too.

Great post, it always needs to be all about the clients. They know if there's a recruiter who doesn't really care - the good ones always really care. That's what brings meaning to the whole deal!
