The candidate is just thrilled with the offer and says this is the nicest employer they’ve ever dealt with.
How can you not be incredibly happy for this candidate and excited for them in their new position? How about when you’re dealing with someone that you placed there 7 years ago and he’s been through a couple of promotions and is now the hiring manager, having a solid impact on the company. And then there’s the person you know needs a job and a change, a new start, and you place them in just the right company. Of course they don’t all work out like this but, boy when they do, recruiting really warms your heart.
This is not to say that we are miracle workers or doing anything incredible. We don’t make the companies great and we don’t make the candidates great either. We just find them. But it sure is fun to be a part of the process when good things happen that really impact people’s lives.

You're so right, Todd. The other day, my long time client called me up and said "I want you to come over and take me out to lunch." So I did. While I was there, he took me around and introduced me to other key hiring managers in the company which netted me 1 immediate search and 1 pending. Then he quit. He's in Cancun now and if he gets back alive he starts with a new company with hiring meeds.
I know the feeling well. I recently recruited a grad who had been looking for work for awhile and had always dreamt of working in my industry. When I called him to arrange an interview, he was so excited just to get that far. When I made the offer, he let out a big "YES!" before spending the next ten minutes thanking me for helping him. It's moments like those that remind me why I'm in this game. And the best part? He's been with us for a couple of months now and everytime I see him, he tells me how much he loves his job.
Thanks Todd for sharing this. It is indeed one of the most rewarding parts of our job in that we play some small role in making a difference. My most rewarding placement was a GYN Surgeon I placed 8 years ago and from time to time he still will shoot me an email to update me and thank me for my efforts. It always means a great deal to me.
