Your 2011 HR Program - Re-evaluate and Optimize

By Karen Bucks, iCIMS Blogger

As we head into 2011, I’m sure many of you are preparing or acting upon your 2011 strategic initiatives. And as expected, there have been a profusion of posts from industry bloggers about those 2011 strategies and trends. Do they match up to your plan? Maybe…maybe not. And that is ok. The important thing to remember is: be open to re-evaluation; be flexible.

If we have learned anything over the past couple years, flexibility is key in HR. Adapting new trends, rescuing old ones, and driving current ones enable HR professionals and recruiters to have a successful talent management year.

In the past, the HR space was always known for being paper heavy, having time-consuming approval methods, and being restricted by regulations. As time passed, there was a push for easier, more readily available ways to source, recruit, and onboard quality candidates. For example, when job boards started, it gave recruiters the opportunity to advertise immediately, ultimately speeding up the application submission process. When social media entered the picture, it gave recruiters instant access to a great deal of qualified applicants. These both added value in an effective way. The idea of “better, more effective” still is also quite apparent in 2011.

So now 2011 is here, and there are even better trends expected, which include:

  • More integrated talent management methods employed to power the entire HR function – integrating programs can lead to a more streamlined and effective department.
  • Increased social media usage.
  • Greater use of technology - enabling mid-sized companies to experience greater financial and corporate growth. HR solutions should definitely be included on that list.

As you start your 2011 strategic plan, remember, be flexible and always re-evaluate. Could your methods be improved upon? Re-evaluation could lead to a better, more functional, and more cost-effective HR program.

I hope 2011 is your best HR year yet!
