Zuck Wants Facebook's Top Recruiter To "Delight" Candidates

I was catching up on email while standing in line at Peet’s in Oakland yesterday morning when the headline for a job description caught my attention:

“Head of Global Recruiting for Facebook”

Wow, we here @Ongig study job ads a bunch — I wondered what Facebook is looking for in its top recruiter.

The full job description is below with highlights in blue, but here are things that jumped out at us:

  • Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants to “delight” candidates — Nice to see the hiring manager (VP, People Lori Goler I presume) mentioning what Zuck wants in recruiting.
  • “Partner with Marketing” — It’s refreshing to see them mention the importance of marketing in recruiting. We’ll write more about this topic soon, but we believe the most successful recruiters are the ones who partner with their marketing leadership.
  • Technical background in “analytics” and “databases” preferred — It’s not every day you see that in a recruiting leader’s skill set!
  • Manage recruiting operations in 20 countries and 40 offices — wow, Facebook sure has grown fast.
  • Facebook wants to “set the bar” for all tech companies to aspire to — nice and lofty goal!

Facebook Head of Global Recruiting (Menlo Park, CA)

We are looking for a Director of Recruiting to redefine staffing as we move into the next evolution of Facebook.

Facebook is seeking a global leader for Recruiting to lead the ongoing build-out and operations of our in-house recruiting team and manage external recruiting sources. This leader will drive the strategy and operations for recruiting across more than 20 countries and 40 office locations.

This role will be responsible for building a world class recruiting organization and setting the bar for all other tech companies to aspire to. This leader will ensure that Facebook identifies, engages, and hires the strongest team with the right cultural fit for Facebook. In addition, this role will be responsible for partnering with the business to determine Facebook’s key needs and developing new strategies for identifying, engaging, and closing the best candidates for all disciplines across the globe..

This position reports directly to Facebook’s VP, People and is located in our Menlo Park headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Be bold:
  • -Deliver against an aggressive hiring plan while building out our team, systems and processes to continue to scale over time
  • -Provide guidance on organizational effectiveness, change management and conflict resolution, as well as provide expertise in the following areas: career planning, performance management, coaching, data analysis, recognition programs, and strategic development
  • -Build strong working relationships with leaders across Facebook over time through collaboration on projects that impact teams across Facebook
  • Move fast:
  • -To continue Marks’ vision, Facebook will need a recruiting leader to scale while continuing to delight users, candidates and customers through hyper growth. To accomplish this, it will be crucial to be a Director to plan for the future by building teams and operational systems capable of scaling to a substantially larger capacity
  • -Keep recruiting policies relevant as Facebook evolves
  • -Implement efficient, scalable recruiting business processes which support Facebook’s rapid growth
  • Focus on Impact:
  • -Meet the quarterly and annual recruiting objectives
  • -Continue to build out and manage a strong bench of star recruiters, sourcers and coordinators across the organization
  • -Lead strategic, proactive and consultative recruiter capabilities for all internal client departments and talent markets
  • -Define overall team and performance goals across the team, in partnership with the recruiting leaders and partners on the finance team
  • -Build out and manage back-end recruiting operations capabilities including compliance, process improvements, and recruiting-related analytics
  • -Develop and lead recruiting training programs for all recruiting staff

  • -Provide leadership, inspiration and coaching to the Recruiting teams in the US and globally
  • -Lead hiring and career development for a recruiting team of smart, highly ambitious professionals across a variety of recruiting roles
  • -Develop and manage recruiting reports, dashboards, and metrics. Establish and track metrics to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the recruiting team, hiring managers, interviewers, and referrers
  • -Partner with the rest of the People team to provide excellent strategic partnership and guidance, identify efficiencies and build strong operating systems on issues related to compensation, operations, on-boarding and the long-term success of candidates once they join Facebook
  • Build social value:
  • -Articulate, own and lead the vision for Facebook recruiting globally to create a unified team with shared vision, shared goals and partnership in execution
  • -Create systems, tools and processes that provide a feedback loop that makes candidates and client satisfaction data accessible and actionable
  • -Develop and execute strategic approach to achieve company goals in staffing
  • -Create innovative programs, events and campaigns to help hire the best engineers, sales people, legal team, HR, product managers and designers, including innovative use of facebook.com itself
  • -Partner with Marketing to build on the strengths of Facebook’s existing recruiting brand, recruiting messaging, and candidate-facing recruiting tools
  • -Partner with IT to implement and iterate on recruiting information systems (ATS, recruiting CRM systems, and recruiting data systems). Act as customer and business owner for these systems
  • -Partner with teams that are building recruiting tools to develop systems that increase efficiency, reach and accuracy while facilitating quality and compliance

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 15 years strategic staffing/staffing mgmt experience. Prior track-record of successfully building, inspiring and managing a large-scale global recruiting (or similar business operations) function for a high-growth technology company
  • Excellent analytic and metric-based skills
  • technical background in analytical software and/or databases preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and people leadership skills
  • Experience working and partnering with engineers and technical teams and/or in a technical environment is strongly preferred
  • Innovative, apolitical, creative problem-solving mindset, with ability to thrive in a rapidly growing, fast-changing and highly collaborative environment
  • An ability to build and coordinate cross-functional teams from a wide range of disciplines
