On the EOE/EEO/AA/M/F/D Alphabet Soup...

Quote for the Day: Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

"Equal opportunity statements seem awkward at best and unnecessary at worst, especially in radio commercials. After all, equal opportunity is the law, so stating it in your ad is a bit odd. A company is either open to diversity or not; it either supports equality or it doesn’t. Putting the EOE statement in an ad or commercial doesn’t change anything.

Imagine spotting a delivery van with a bumper sticker that says “This vehicle obeys the traffic laws.” If it’s true, great. It it’s not true, the bumper sticker doesn’t make it so. But firms that have been cited for unfair hiring practices often insist on including EOE statements in their ads even long after they have cleaned up their act."
