No this is not a rant post, but rather good weekend fodder. I was speaking to a colleague this weekend and this individual was sharing some thoughts about new obstacles within their market, and some difficulties associated with a few potential placements. It opened up into a 'if I could have done it differently' conversation which served as inspiration for this post.

If not for your current market/sector/niche- who would you rather be recruiting? And why?

I had to give it some real thought. As most of you know I am a physician recruiter and I really love working with doctors. It goes beyond a stars aligning scenario; win/client - win/candidate - win/me. I always enjoyed the fact that the individuals I place into new communities are essentially there to help people. That thought alone always tended to make me work that much harder to make a successful placement.

So what would I rather be doing?

Well if I had to do it over again I would like to be a collegiate athletics recruiter. A what? Well to be more specific a UCONN associate coach/recruiter. As noted in my introduction post I am a big time UCONN Basketball fan (not even alumni), so of course as a sports fan this would play to an interest. To take a step further, as a real fan it would certainly fuel my passion for the day to day rigors of the job. That passion which is so important in all areas of recruiting.

Secondly it would place me in a highly competitive  market. That always served as motivation for me to go above and beyond my competitors. To stand out from the crowd and give a real reason for people to deal with me.

Now I am sure there would be numerous variables that would present new challenges from those that I face on a desk currently, but I was placed on the spot to come up with some answer.

So now I bring it to the RBC..........your turn........
