This week, we're looking at axes and how they get ground

The interaction between social needs, politics and commerce is the very essence of community. Friction, the stuff that happens so that bigger ideas can be generated, comes from conflicting agendas. It should be no surprise that the blogging on RBC features lots of axes and lots of grinders. Really, "axe grinding" is just a way of saying "pursuing your own agenda".

There is real value in the work being distributed through the RBC blogs. Here are this week's wonderful examples.

• How Search Engines are Impacting Job Boards from William Fischer, Director of Workhound, the UK's largest job search engine, comes a review of search engine technique and strategy.
• Maren Hogan offers Getting into the Promised Land more ruminations on the Chicken and Egg problem ... getting respect for our practitioners while building a formal educational structure. Let's hope that Maren continues to dig her teeth into this subject.
• Bringing together Employers, Candidates and Agency Recruiting Firms Entrepreneur Darlene Komorowski is using the RBC blogs to drum up support for her new directory service.
• RecruiterGuy.net Toolkit (the beginning) RecruiterGuy (Christopher Hoyt) uses the RBC blogs to drive traffic to his website. In the short run, early adopters will be able to use this technique successfully. Over the long haul, however, the rewards will accumulate to those who build community here. That said, the posting is for a really useful index of information sources.
• Bill Branstetter offersBroadlook Diver Review: What to do with all of those Google results!.His reviews are closer to the community because thy have user-authenticity.

It's interesting to note that most (actually, all) of these articles have an underlying commercial objective. These writers are building businesses and coming up learning curves. Their interests align with ours as a way of simultaneously building community and business. IFrom a number of angles, the two are the same thing.
