Is 50% of each placement too steep a price to pay?

I'm not a professional recruiter, although I've utilized them in my past work.  I find myself in a very unique position within my chosen field and need some advice.  Over the past 15 or so years, both my wife and I have committed our careers to working in the hospice arena.  Both in Senior positions, but different organizations.  Our plan was for the wife to work locally and I would take a role requiring travel as to not be competing with one another.  Longterm, we would have the funds and expertise to own a hospice of our own.  Currently, we have a hospice and considering the purchase of another. That said, my RN spouse can easily handle daily OPS of two sites.  Although we're doing well, our industry is scary with regulation changes, acquisitions, etc.  Tons of top senior execs are looking for roles.  With me not being able to transfer, or able to work locally, I'm at an extreme disadvantage even with years of hospice CEO exp on my CV.  All said, I've entertained niche recruiting for the hospice industry (primarily in the Gulf Coast market).  I can afford no paycheck for a bit, but no recruiting exp.  I'm the "salesy" type, so I can network and talk.  My LI connects number over 4k of hospice owners and/or senior execs.  I only recently decided to consider this and was ironically approached by a Healthcare Recruiting org.  They are national and cover a broad base of medical roles.  If I join the team I would get 50% of all fees for placements I make from companies I gain new contracts with.  I would be a 1099 employee working from my home.  I would have to sign an agreement....likely non compete.  Just not sure if I shouldn't go this alone.  I don't have all the pieces, but their must be value in my intimate knowledge of hospice to bring exemplary talent to the right position?  Yes, I would need to brand, get database access, commit to diligent phone time, insurance, etc.....but this i can do.  Is not doing it worth 50% I guess is the question?  I really don't know.  I would gain experience, but the company is very small with no office...just a few home based employees.  They have interest in my hospice exp to bring on more hospice clients or to get access to my multiple contacts...not sure which likely both.  That said, I get the impression their not willing to give me any required placements from current contracted clients.  Advice/Comments?

If what you primarily need is access to some "tools" to start out, I would not personally want to sign a non-compete, etc.  - if your intention is to eventually go out on your own. We have a recruiter that is semi-retired and we made arrangements with him for various scenarios, not super formal but it's worked well for 10+ years.
