If you’ve been around in business since the turn of the century (I like saying that. Makes me feel old and experienced) then some of what we see going on in the world may remind you of the most recent downturns in the economy.

Air strikes on terrorist targets, lofty stock market, political climate, unemployment, income disparity. There is a lot to compare to the Dotcom Bust and the Financial Crisis. But things are different now and I believe we are in decent shape going forward. It’s not that “we’ve learned our lesson”. As a society that probably is not the case. We did have quite a flush out in the Financial Crisis though. Fortunes were lost in the Dotcom Bust, but business in general was not flushed out and reset like it was in the Financial Crisis. The recovery has been slow, and it had to be. For recruiting, this has been good.

Because of this, business in general is on much better footing than it was before. In recruiting you can feel that daily. I’m not saying we won’t have a recession at some point, but think more like 1990, not 2008.
