Walmart Supports Employees with Cancer with New Healthcare Coverage

Yesterday I posted a disturbing article aboutChick-fil-A demoting a breast cancer survivor after she took medical leave for having double mastectomy. That demotion cut her hours which caused her to lose her healthcare coverage.  Today I am very happy to post the news that Walmart is expanding its healthcare benefits to include three cancers with Mayo Clinic, one of the nation’s leading health care providers.

“Effective Jan. 1, 2015, Walmart associates and family members enrolled in the company’s health reimbursement account plans or health savings account plan who are diagnosed with breast, lung or colorectal cancer can obtain a review of their medical records by Mayo Clinic, and when recommended, receive care covered at 100 percent for on-site visits at Mayo Clinic Cancer Center locations in Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla., or Phoenix, Ariz.”

It is really gratifying to see that even in these days when company’s are shifting more of the healthcare burden back onto their employees, industry leading companies like Walmart still recognize the need to provide a little bit more for those battling cancer.
