Use

The most important question you need to answer in choosing a mic is this: What am I using it for? Because there is a kind of mic specifically for how it is going to be used.

For live performances, it is best to use dynamic mics as these are best suited for the dynamic environment of the stage. For recordings, what is best are condenser microphones as they are more sensitive to sounds. There are basically two types of this microphone. The small diaphragm mic is said to perform better than large diaphragm ones in many disciplines, but large diaphragm mics have relatively low noise. When you want a more natural sound, better get the small diaphragm but if you prefer a bigger sound, a large diaphragm mic would be great.

Room Acoustics and Available Equipment

The difference between a high-end mic and a cheaper mic does not really matter unless you have the right equipment and recording environment for it. When what you have are just the basics, then it is less practical to invest on an expensive mic when your recording room is not well suited for the mic, or you don’t have enough room or a specific stand to adequately position the mic.

Budget

In choosing microphones, high end and expensive does not always mean that it is the best one for you. Nowadays, there are cheaper alternatives that also produce quality sounds, especially for those who are just starting to set up their own studios and are on a tight budget. For starters, it is best to choose cheaper microphones, then as you get more experienced and you know what specifically you want in a mic, you can upgrade to more expensive ones.
