Played a lead role on a history making recruitment team that hired an average of 5,000 high tech professionals per year for three (3) consecutive years at Rockwell International’s North American Aircraft Operations division in Southern California.  A feat unheard of and unmatched in any industry, earning the accolade, in 1988, of “Team’s Top Recruiter,” from then North American Aircraft Division, President, Sam F. Iacobellis (Ret.); and "TOP GUN RECRUITER", in HISPANIC magazine, 1989.

Thank you Slouch and Jerry for the kind comments...and C. B., comparing 1981 to 2010 is very much like comparing Feast to Famine in recruiting, particularly in Aerospace & Defense.  The Space Program was gang busters and Reagan just approved the biggest defense program in the history of defense programs at the time...the B1-B Bomber program which required 100 planes to be built and 15,000 new hires  across all design and manufacturing engineering and support related disciplines over a three year period.  It was wild.

I had the good fortune to be brought in at a buck one level recruiter and was promoted 4x in 5 years into managing the entire staffing function for the Aircraft Division ...facilitated the hire of an astronaut, top gun fighter pilots,  on to tube-benders and everything in between.

Just wondering. How many people were on your staff?

C.B.,

Since you asked, we started with 3-4 recruiters doing exempt hires; 2-3 doing hourly & non-exempt with 2-3 support staff.

We averaged from 150 -200 and as high as 250-300 reqs each at a time.  I would have as high as 500 reqs because I transitioned between hourly, production, engineering, R&D, QA,  IT and managerial, with college sprinkled in.

I was promoted 4x in 5 years--when I was promoted to Manager, Employment and University Relations, I had 3 recruiters and 2 support staff--I myself also recruited full-time as a hands-on manager.

We would run full page Recruitment Ads and would do multiple job fairs in the LA market and in all of the major aerospace cities, e.g., Seattle, NY, St. Louis, Denver, Dallas, Houston, Wichita, Tulsa, and the Cape in Florida--sometimes 5-7/month.

On the road, there were times when and where we had a nurse available to do on-the-spot drug testing.  Rockwell was one of the first major companies to do drug testing back in the mid-'80s.
