Hi Staci - are you an independent recruiter, internal? What kinds of candidates are you looking for - that will help people be able to make suggestions of some possible avenues.
I am a corporate recruiter. Right now I'm looking for a LAN Adminstrator/Technical Support, Sales Professional and Project Manager. Most of the people I contact on LinkedIN don't reply. I have had some luck - hired 3 people from there - but I'm running into the same people now that I've been using it for awhile. I'm also very active on Facebook. I was hoping there was another "free" source out there that maybe I overlooked.

There are some free sites for job postings, which can get you a few applicants. If you advertise on your company website or pay for a classified ad, it should get picked up by Indeed and others - are you advertising the jobs already? Of course, that usually means a lot more resumes to sift through, but any good ones can be saved for future possible openings. Any hires or prior applicant should also be contacted to see if they may know anyone...

Call into your ten biggest competitors and ask for the LAN Admin. Tell that person you're looking for a referral h/she may have for someone who might be ready for more responsibility this company may not have to offer the person. You'll be surprised how many managers know they're going to lose someone they can't promote. This is called headhunting...it really works- it also gives you a list of potential prospects for more senior positions - this is top down selling-
@ Staci Did you call the people from Linkedin or did you message them through the system? I don't send email over the system any more. I look up where they work and call them at work. Email takes too long and the person can say deleting the message too easily.
Also follow AL's suggestion. I fill most of my positions through headhunting. It's quick and easy.
my trainee told me the same thing the other day. i showed her how to search by key words, company, relevance, and voila more candidates. Also, meetups are a good place to search. Find a LAN meet up group (an exciting place i'm sure ;p) and got to town.
