LinkedIn profiles: fake, phony & faux is NOT the way to go!

Out of curiosity, I recently listened in on a group “lesson” given by a self-labeled social media expert. This person regularly delivers LinkedIn training and claims they have “gotten people jobs” through the following technique as well as other profile building tips related to SEO, keywords, etc.

The expert recommended that unemployed people should create a group on LinkedIn and give themselves a title such as CEO, VP of Marketing, Relationship Director, etc., of that group related to their industry or interests.

Have you ever heard of this or seen profiles like that – where someone lists that in lieu of a current job?

I just love these lyin' ,cheatin, sow sucking magot social media  job experts with their phony profiles and scam advice.  Have people gotten so stupid that they think they an make up companies or start a group and think any employer is going to be overwhelmed that they are the"relationship director" of a linkedin group.  Social Media as it stands today with the flakes and phonies touting their Klout score, number of followers  to make a crooked buck off of people looking for jobs is becoming more of a joke with each passing day.

thanks for posting this Kelly.  I haven't seen any of these profiles yet but if i do I can promise Mr. GURU that his followers will get an email telling them that they are making fools of themselves in the public domain.  The rumblings are starting about the adolescence and outrageous ignorance of SM being a painful process.  Perhaps  as it comes of age and the flakes get called out and labled ,social media recruiting/job seeking/marketing will mean something more than a cesspool of bad advice with a few  smelly chunks of wisdom floating in it served up by any idiot who can type and fill out a profile.  Maybe SEO should stand for Slimey Exposure Overated.

HA! Sandra! I agree. Where are all of these so called Social Media "experts" coming from?

Really not much to add to what Sandra said... other than that I completely agree with her. :) This is just so much noise and frankly I've avoided calling candidates I've found through LinkedIn and other mediums because they take this ridiculousness too far.

Most of these social media "experts" drink their own koolade and honestly believe that their high Klout score from posting links to weather.com gives them serious cred. Many of them are legends in their own minds. Unfortunately, they share this "expertise" with their followers who carry on the practice and discredit themselves in the process.

@james, Lol, I almost ended that rant with: Now ask me how I really feel about these jackasses? Jerry and I were giving one of them who posts little blurbs of his blog here, closes comments and links to his site, a hard time on twitter. He responded and said "sadly , google hurts authors who post the same thing on different sites. Really, seriously. Does he think that syndication is the same thing as duplicate content. He has 30 k LinkedIn followers and posts that now he has to delete someone each time he accepts a new connection so if he hasn't gotten around to deleting you yet he will.

His reason for closing comments here is that he wants to get them all in one place so everybody can see them. Batcrap. He wants the hits on his site, uses other sites without making any contribution or opening comments. Obviously just promoting himself, and his Seo to make it look like his webinars and career coaching are in high demand.

The word "scab" comes to mind. A social maggot in my mind. That's not how I really feel. The rest of it is X rated. :)

I have been looking for a Productivity Solutions Manager for a while now. The position has been a revolving target but that is not the reason I am responding to this. I have looked at a lot of the resumes of these so called experts and most of them do not have substance. They may have a lot of connections but have not produced results for Corporate clients. I am also surprised at how many of them do not have degrees, something that is required for my position. I have listened to a lot of these seminars that they give on how to use social media and walk away saying how is that going to help me? There is a lot of empty space in this cloud computing area.

I think some of these people are the "fish" from that free dating website called "plenty of fish"  or maybe they are Wal-Mart People who finally got a computer.  Take a look at POF and you will know how they got to be Social Media Experts.  Arrrrrggghhh.
