A gradual shift toward more "Applicant Targeted" content here?

For the past few months I've noticed more and more self-promo stuff geared toward candidate enlightenment, job hunting tips, etc.

Do the posters have any idea what so ever this is a place for recruiters? Or do they come here, think "Hey - this is a great place to spam with my candidate BS" and post away?

Yes - I'm an old dog. Perhaps one of the new tricks I should learn is "How to get business by joining the job hunting and resume writing tips club and splatter said content all over hell" - and make tons of money. But alas - it won't happen.

Mitch Sullivan's posting earlier gave me reason to believe I'm not alone. While I am always one to welcome new members - and must admit I've not had as much time as I use to enjoy to hang out here - is it too much to ask new posters to "get a feel for the audience" before they post their "how to get a job" BS?

Comment by Noel Cocca on April 24, 2012 at 1:07pm: Bill and Jerry, we get a ton of new to the field recruiters that come to the site and compliment some of the entry level posts that they find. We also get good feedback from recruiters that enjoy the "refresher" of some of this more basic posts.

Comment by Amy Ala Miller on April 24, 2012 at 1:14pm: I see your point Jer, but a lot of this stuff gets shared with a bigger audience through LinkedIn, etc. so candidates/potential candidates do see it... If the information existed only here in a group for recruiters I would be inclined to agree but I know a few "candidate focused' pieces I've written have made their way to the people who really needed to read them.

Then again I tend to write more cautionary tales as opposed to "5 steps you should already know" stuff. Of course Noel has a great point about junior recruiters who benefit from some (not all) of this.

If you think being called out for what you write or how you express it is a personal attack then the internet isn't really for you now is it? and if you don't care what type of content people post..why challenge it?
