I just had to share with the group - I thought I had heard every response.
I reached out to a candidate via LinkedIn - judging by his job titles and overall experience - thought he would be a good fit and within our salary range.
I ask him for his resume and salary requirements in my InMail and he responds with a salary range about $60-70K over our range, demanding a VP title - even though he is currently a Manager and our job profile clearly states it's a Manager role.
I respond that unfortunately he's out of our range but I will keep him in mind for other opportunities.
He responds with "Then why did you bother me with such a stupid request for my resume?" It just amazes me that someone would respond in such an unprofessional manner.
Any of my other colleagues receive less than stellar responses?

And guess who you won't be calling when that prime VP spot rolls around? hahaha... Thanks for sharing Lisa it's always nice to get a reminder that we're not alone. :)
I haven't had that happen, but that is totally unprofessional. Imagine what he is like to work with.
Dodged bullet (and you are not alone, though thankfully this is the exception, not the rule).
I really hope you are not referring to me as an idiot recruiter. I think we're losing sight here that his response was completely unprofessional - no excuses - I don't care how many 'idiots' have contacted him.

Sometimes profiles have not been updated or we don't know what people might be looking for if they might be interested. I am a bit more indirect when I contact with an inmail. I say something like, " based on your profile I may have a client interested in your qualifications, I would like to speak with you about your career interests.". "happy to provide full company info and salary if you might have interest".
If I get a note back that says they are only interested at a certain range or title and I can't hit it, I say so and mention I will save their profile. People don't seem to be as hostile if they get to state their wish list first. It takes a little more time to interact but I haven't had anyone bite me yet. It can get a little tricky when we contact people about a lateral move in title when we don't know if they would consider a lateral or only a big step up in title or money.
Some people really are pretty happy where they are so are pretty unrealistic about what
might interest them but I have had a lot of them come back around when something happens
that puts them on the market for a lateral.
All that being said, some people are just rude, obnoxious, SOB's so feed em fish heads and hit the delete buttom. :). Saved you a lot of interview time to determine that the jerk would probably not be a culture fit except for a gulag.
People are being contacted by every idiot recruiter who can send a form letter asking for their resume so some are super tired of it.
