Hi, I do door to door sales in residential neiborhoods of houston texas...my current set up is 15% commission, a phone and company car durring work hours only. Other than that I really get no other bonuses if I sell enough or rewards..Im the top salesman for this company. I get a draw of 1500 per month which is bare neccessitys. I am required to do labor work 3 to 4 hours out of the day 2 or 3 days a week. Plus I am reqired to do late night appointments at 830pm 3 or 4 times a week and im required to work saturdays. I personaly beleive that this is not fair..Im make this company so much money and get pennys back in return...I think the goal of my boss is to make his employees work for free...what do you think about this...please help, im on the verge of quitting and telling them to shove it...they are nice, great peoplel untill it comes to money then they are tighter than the wicked which of the west.

A few things to consider here.

Did you sign up for it? I mean did you agree to this when you started or did it change? If these are the conditions you signed up for, and you did so on your own free will, then.. to be blunt.. so be it.

Secondly, if it changed and this is now different conditions to what you started with then, hey, by all means talk to your employer. Actually talk to your employer anyways. No use using the threatening to quit line, if you like the company, the people etc and you want to stay.

All sales people work for free, my boss says. They make the money and pay for themselves. Our sales people are well looked after, however my boss says he doesn't pay them a wage. They look after it themselves. Honestly if sales people don't cover their own wage plus a lot then you don't have them. Easy.

I had another boss once who told me he could give me what ever OTE (On Target Earnings) package i wanted, however the expectations and KPI's would be way different.

Sorry Joshua, you probably wouldn't get to much sympathy in my office.
Well, a couple things to consider as well Dan. The mark up on our product is over 100% so 15% seems way low. If the mark up on our product was um.. 50% then 15% would be alot more you see what I mean. Also the more a salesman sales the more compensation I believe he should get, bonuses or something...I have looked at my bosses paperwork...shhsss He personally takes home more than a million dollars a year. He owns the company and what not too. But still, I think its greedy. I mean what if I talked to him next year, finished out this year really strong, with good leadership, and he still chooses to not pay me more commissions or bonuses...This is tuff, cause I love my relationships with my coworkers, and the job..I just dont feel good at the end of every month, nomader how much I get. I have been taking several steps to raise my value..NOW I train other employees to door knock like me and as well as me, I do all those appointments, and what not..He ACTS like he is doing me a favor everytime we talk, and it pisses me off that he is like that...am I just being a crybaby or does is sound like my boss is a con artist?????

Joshua,

I stand by what I said. If you're so good, go start your own company.

If you don't have the guts to say something and think you are being taken advantage of, then go. Seriously, go. Life's too short to be pissed off and whiney all the time.

I agree with Sandra, it is none of your business what your boss earns. I had someone come into my office complaining that his salary didn't go up in the same ratio's or percentages as the companies revenues. It wasn't my finest moment, but I told him, that he obviously mistook me for someone who cares. (Thus why I'm not in HR I suppose) These were the statements of an ego driven, self important, my s#@t don't stink, ill informed, immature worker. Business is business, and you should be proud of the success of your company and your part of it. The rewards normally follow
