Job Description : The Key Job Elements Include:
• Develop performance specification and performance calculations for DC traction motors and AC auxiliary induction motors electrical designs.
• Lead the development of the electrical design, insulation design, manufacturing cost savings, and performance testing of new and remanufactured DC traction motors and AC auxiliary induction motors.
• Coordinate resolution of field problems associated with reliability and performance of DC traction motors and AC auxiliary induction motors.
• Communicate DC traction motors and AC auxiliary induction motor design and application information to Systems Engineering, Drafting, Manufacturing, and Service personnel.
• Assist in resolution of DC traction motor and AC auxiliary induction motor manufacturing problems.
• Keeps abreast of new technology and competitive products associated with electrical machine designs;
• Travel as required to fulfill work assignments.
• Accept special assignments as business needs require.
• Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunitie Qualifications (Required):
• BS in Electrical Engineering required with emphasis on Electrical Machine Design and Electrical Power Systems Engineering.
• Proven success of 5 or more years designing and developing high power three phase AC induction motors, DC motors, or AC synchronous alternators in a team environment.
• Strong knowledge of IEEE standards for testing and rating electrical machines.
• Knowledge of insulation material dielectric and thermal characteristics currently used in high performance electrical machines.
• Knowledge of electrical machine design principles including calculation of machine equivalent circuit characteristics, magnetic saturation, electrical losses, selection of insulation materials, temperature rise of machine components, and electrical/mechanical performance calculations.
• Experience using CAD Engineering Tools or Custom Computer Programs to design, develop, and calculate electrical machine performance.
• Knowledge of engineering manufacturing methods and production processes used to produce high power electrical machines.
• High level of oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills. Preferred: • MS in Electrical Engineering preferred with graduate course work related to the design and control of electrical machines applied to variable speed AC/DC drives.
• Knowledge on how to optimize machine efficiency considering output rating, physical size, and material costs.
• Knowledge on how power electronic converter or inverter supplied power source affects the design and performance of an electrical machine.
• Experienced using MATLAB for calculating electrical machine, power system, power electronic converter/machine, or power electronic inverter/machine performance.
• Experience in design and development of electrical machines for locomotive or transit AC/DC traction drives.
