OK, so I made the suggestion to Jason a group be created on LinkedIn for RecruitingBlogs.com

Bill Vick suggested I start one here. At first I declined. I thought the last thing I needed to do was start another online group.

And I am doing so at 1:15 am, Minneapolis time.

Before I get too far into this, although getting this started was much less time (about 4 minutes) compared to LinkedIn (about 4 weeks).

My idea is that if you join the group you are open to accepting invitations from our search and recruiting colleagues.

What do you think, a good idea? If so, join the group so others can see your intention to connect with them.

Hi Paul -

I think this is a great idea. But, I think I must be missing something. Don't I need to know the email addresses of the folks in this group in order to invite them to connect on LinkedIn? I know some of the folks, but certainly not all. Or is there some other way? What am I missing?

Thanks!

Heather
Heather makes a good point. That's why my LinkedIn invitation is right in my profile along with the correct email address for people to use.

If we all agree to be open networkers by joining this group, I would suggest that we keep a list of email addresses to share amongst ourselves to use when inviting.
Nice start Paul. I hope we see active postings from recruiters using LinkedIn to the fullest. It's a great resource and often misunderstood by some of us. I hope to post some tips and techniques on using LinkedIn for recruiting over the next few weeks and to share some insider ideas and hints that will help you do more business and make more placements using LinkedIn along with some of the other networks.

Both Heather and Carl bring up a valid point on our having a common database, including email addresses, for members of a group like this in order to link up.
Heather, I apologize. I missed your message.

I too have my LinkedIn profile on my page.

I can start a thread and go back to the original discussion with a "how to" add a LinkedIn profile

Either that or I can start a thread where people reply with their email addresses.

Which or both is preferred?
Hey friends,

You will see I posted a new discussion topic that includes directions on getting a members LinkedIn button their page. I also added it to the group introduction and will put it here should someone not see it in the other places.

Heather pointed out that because we do not have our email addresses on our RecruitingBlogs.com profiles it makes it a little more difficult to connect on LinkedIn.

Hopefully this will help. Below you will see a “how to” on getting your LinkedIn profile button on your RecruitingBlogs.com page.

If the person you want to connect with does not have their email on their LinkedIn profile use one of us in this group to pass on the invitation.

Go to LinkedIn
Click “My Profile”
Scroll down to “Public Profile Setting”
Click “Promote your profile”
Pick a button, copy the code

Go to Recruiting Blogs
Click “My Page”
Find “Your RecruitingBlogs.com Box”
Click “Edit”
Create a “Title”, I used “MN Headhunter on LinkedIn”
Paste code from LinkedIn
Click “Save”
