The longer I am in the industry, the more convinced I am that there are naturals for our profession. I have tried training people who don't have "it" and I am never successful. On the other hand, people with "it" need very little direction and they seem to take off like an airplane, often using new creative ways of doing it.

So what are these natural qualities? I will list a few, please add your ideas too because I could never think of them all. I am just to A.D.H.D. to take the time, which is probably attribute #1.

#2 common sense

#4 organized

#3 tenacious

#5 a sense of urgency

#6 you like talking on the phone, but more importantly

#7 you listen very closely

#8 Optimistic

#9 Likes people

#10 tact

Being a results or outcome oriented person is critical otherwise the alternative is a paper-pushing, email-sending, spreadsheet-compiling, phone-avoider.

Michael, I understand what you are saying & I might call it a good sense of timing because I think sometimes you need to be patience and sometimes you need a fierce sense of urgency. Knowing the difference is what makes you successful, imho.
I agree with all of them, especially Irina's great sense of humor when she suggests that recruiters be computer literate. Oh, you make me laugh for hours, seriously :)

Have to be good with online tech/tools. As to ethics, Brad, I've always taken great comfort in knowing that the unethical may succeed in the short term...but don't stay in the biz long. Those who do good business tend to eat those who do not like homemade chocolate chip cookies out of the oven and do so in an organized fashion with good humor and great attention to detail.
