Dear Friends,

As we all know that for a recruiter, work life is not always a stable one. There are times when all our efforts seems to be going in vain and the business is not happy with us. Even despite our heroics a quarter back, business starts to doubt our capabilities. There is no compromise in our efforts and dedication we show during our best phase.

Now what to do......

We corrected our stance on looking at things and try again to come over such situation, yet things doesn't seems to be changing. What do you do and at the same time, keep your motivation level high. Friends please share your experiences and the things you did to come out of such situations...

For me - I try to never "overthink" these things.  I need a job order that I can make sendouts on.  Do I have that?  If so - then I need an interested candidate.  The basic components of our field are all very simple.  Even when things are great - stellar - incredible! - - - - we still need one thing:  A job order with a client who will interview your candidates. 

 

Now get out there and make some sendouts!  :)

Yes i do agree on this solution, but at times even sendouts couldnt help as the final closer is something which is required. Yes in the placement agency mode this is the only thing you are responsible/accountable for. But in the inhouse recruitment, Business is expecting you to close the requirements with good resources on time. There are times, when all your efforts are going in vain and business is not approving the candidates you are most sure of.

What are the things a recruiter can do to maintain the same level of motivation and continue loving what he is doing?

Sunil, facing the situation you describe seems quite tough. There was one time when I faced a (seemingly) unending stretch of rejections on a specific job or with a specific client. It almost seemed like I could not get it right and there was a bad vibe from my managers that just hung around in the air. I did lose quite some sleep that week, and try as I did to learn from the rejections, there was really not much beyond the fact that those candidates just weren't capable of performing the job.

Focusing on learning from the rejections is quite important. As a follow up thought, when you are facing the fire for a bad spell of sendouts, it can be useful to look around the room and remind yourself that your employers have hired you to succeed and more importantly, they WANT you to succeed. That can sound oversimplified, but it is the truth. If they did not think that you could be successful, you would have been out of a job by this time. 

Keep that confidence up, soldier on, keep focused on making the next call and the next one after that. Examine your assumptions and make the next call, tech screen and sendout better in some meaningful way than the last one. You will have the last hurrah. Good luck!
