I just discovered something about managing emails to lists of people.
Sometimes I find email addresses of people I wanted to contact (such as potential candidates in Google) and use the MS Word /Outlook combination to send my message out. The problem arises when on the next day I find some other relevant addresses and want to send the same message. Have I emailed these people already? I hate to repeat the same message.

I’ve been exploring tools that track email campaigns but haven’t started using them. If you work for a larger company you probably have tools that serve you – but this may not be the case if you are small/independent.

So, just now I found a great solution – using Excel. To implement my solution you would need to maintain a CSV file with emails of people who don’t want to hear from you again. You would also use a CSV file with addresses where you already had emailed your particular letter … and then… I am ready to explain but I am curious whether others would be interested. Let me know if you want to hear about this. In a sense this eliminates the need for a professional package that would keep track of email campaigns.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM is a robust SaaS based tool - is incredibly integrated to Outlook (as you'd expect) and is a FRACTION of the cost of salesforce.com $39 or $59 per month, depending on service level.

It has campaign management built in, and when you are ready for a bigger email tool is integrated with Exact Target and others.

Blog post about it here: http://www.sellingondemand.com/profiles/blogs/new-crm-in-town

I never thought I'd be recommending this over salesforce, but here I am. I hope this is helpful.
