One Order of Squirrel Please - and hold the cheap...

RecruiterGuy.net Purple Squirrel It's been an interesting few days for calls from the past. Within the last 9 days I've received a call from a former co-worker looking for a job, a frustrated friend trying to get "that interview," an Army buddy interested in a career change, and a fellow recruiter wanting to talk about unrealistic time lines.

My fellow recruiter was… Continue

Employers Don't Try and Fill Jobs...

Nothing But Tears One of the reasons I started blogging at RecruiterGuy.net and why I created My Talent Network was to try and assist active and passive job seekers in finding that perfect job. In writing about the latest recruiting… Continue

Pssst... Have you seen THE list?

Craigslist.org It's no secret that I'm a fan of Craigslist. I've been a fan since 1996 when I was first told about a great little mailing list that was locally run. (I'm from the Bay Area.) You see, Craigslist didn't start as the whopper of a site that it is…

[ALL] The Hoff Moved to Ning... Shouldn't You?

Hasselhoff moves to Ning! News hit recently that the Hoff (that's David Hasselhoff to you rookies) decided it was time to give his online network and image a bit of a face lift. Apparently he wasn't satisfied with the limitations that his…

[Job Seeker Blog] Other People's Money

Passive Gamble There are so many options available to job seekers when the job hunt begins that it can be pretty scary to anyone just getting back into the swing of things - and hoping to not swing for too long. Is it okay to just post a resume on this board or should I use that board? Should I try and find the hiring person and flood them with calls or trust that the resume screener will relay the message to the hiring manager of just how awesome I am? Do I take a headhunter seriously or take…

You Can't Stop The Video?

Video Here To Stay? A few weeks ago I was excited to share a video that I was proud to be part of. It did (and continues to do) a great job at explaining to potential job seekers what occurs in the 'day in the life of' a Premises Technician. Of noted debate from time to time is just how technical this particular brand of technician is required to be.…

Social Networks Improve 'Hearing'...

Social Networking Improves 'Hearing' Every so often I get an email or comment posted on my RecruiterGuy blog that strikes a chord with me. This weekend was no exception. I received two, however - both with ultimately the same message, "Thanks for hearing me."

If you've ever been unfortunate enough to be trapped in a conversation with me when I became incredibly passionate about one of my favorite topics then you know - I'm a huge fan of the two way communication that is social networking. I've been lucky enough…

Does That Mean I Hired a Twit?

RecruiterGuy likes TwitHire Right around July 24th jobs started heading to a new board - a board where job descriptions are only allowed to be 142 characters or less. So in a world where employers are complaining that job boards don't typically give them enough freedom, one wonders why an employer might choose this one. Why would an employer want to post on what could quite possibly be the most limiting job board in existence today?

Could it be…
