This is going to be simple and sweet, but it has been weighing heavily on my mind. The other day I received a check from one of my clients. It was well below what I have been used to making for a placement. Why I took this order, I still have no idea! The whole process was exhausting. Some business is just not worth it. This, my friends was not worth it.
If you ever question yourself and ask "should I take this order?", then don't. Your first instincts are probably right. Success in agency recruiting is recruiting for the right roles. Recruiting for the right roles means working with the right companies!
Recruit for roles that you have a good chance at making some decent money. This isn't being pompous, this is just business. Your time is money! If the margins aren't there, don't take it. If the employees don't get paid market value, don't take it. If the process to get someone hired is ridiculous, don't take it.
This company paid well below market value and they demanded on a 45 day guarantee. 45 days after the employee worked, then I could bill. I would be paid 7 days later. Seem simple?
I placed 4 people. 3 walked off the job in the first week. It was a chop shop. The 4th stayed 50 days. On the 44th day the company tried to negotiate the contract to 90 days. I billed on the 45th day and they paid 3 weeks later with a late fee. We went to go pick up the check, they wouldn't mail.
I want my time back. I want my money for the people that walked off the job. Let me make it clear that I have never had anyone walk off the job EVER!
I swear, I will never do this again. It was not worth it.
