I am about the only geek on this blog that raves about the gaming industry. But honestly, how can you ignore a 10 billion dollar industry that is expected to grow to 25 billion in the next five years. Companies are hard pressed to find people who can do the work. Plus, Game Conferences, like the GDC, are shifting a lot of their focus from new game products to careers in gaming. And,Game Conferences are growing in both size and numbers. My company owns, GameTap. It's a free game emulator for all those old arcade games such as Pac Man and Donkey Kong. However, recruiting has been tough. You wouldn't believe the competition for developers, project managers, 3D animators, testers, and so on. I truly believe that recruiting will play a major role in the gaming industry as companies utilize new technology.

Do you think the recruiting is tough because people aren't interested in the retro games? Maybe figuring out a way to make the "retro" games cool for the younger crowd would help your career marketing.

Making yourself stand out - something like "This ain't your daddy's PacMan" will help draw interest, and then it becomes a two-way sales process - you sell the candidates on the company, and they sell you on their experience.

No I mean recruiting has been tough in general. Not because of the retro aspects of the game. It's a good job market and there are not a lot of game developers in the market. I am an IT recruiter. It's just a good market.
