I just ran across a posting on Darren Barefoot's Blog that describes very simply, the differences between web 1.0 and web 2.0

- Web 1.0 was about reading, Web 2.0 is about writing
- Web 1.0 was about companies, Web 2.0 is about communities

- Web 1.0 was about client-server, Web 2.0 is about peer to peer

- Web 1.0 was about HTML, Web 2.0 is about XML

- Web 1.0 was about home pages, Web 2.0 is about blogs

- Web 1.0 was about lectures, Web 2.0 is about conversation

- Web 1.0 was about advertising, Web 2.0 is about word of mouth

- Web 1.0 was about squeezing everything on the home page, Web 2.0 is about simple, easy & clean design & navigation
- Web 1.0 was about pushing information, Web 2.0 is about pulling your own customized info.

Why is Having a 2.0 Website Is Important?
A web users expectations are increasenly being set by other websites. As people use more and more website's that incorporate web 2.0 elements, they will come to expect certain things; a certain look, a particular functionality, the ability to engage in two-way conversation, customized content and even customized interactions.
