A Deep Understanding of Online Proctoring

Exam Proctoring has gone through a major transformation in the past few years as a result of latest technological innovations. The trend of online proctoring has been catching up pretty fast with more and more institutes as well as organizations moving far away from the traditional methods of proctoring.

For its many benefits, online proctoring has been the preferred choice of companies when it comes to their recruitment needs. Some of the organizations who were the early users of this wonderful way of proctoring are cognizant, Amazon, Walmart Labs, Honeywell and some other relatively small companies.

What do you mean by online proctoring?

Online proctoring is not very different from offline proctoring except the fact that in online proctoring, the invigilator keeps an eye over the candidate’s activities with the help of a webcam.

Online proctoring has the potential to modify your recruitment process, so, all you need to do is find a suitable online proctoring services provider for yourself and specify the key topics on which you want your candidates to be evaluated on and also the level of skill that is required for that particular position.

Before selecting an online proctoring service, you have to make sure that it should not only prevent the candidates from getting into any fraudulent activity but also ensure their authenticity.

How does online proctoring work?

The first thing you do is download the specific software application onto your laptop or else a desktop. As soon as the examination begins, the application makes a quick assessment of your device as well as the webcam. Also, a lockdown system is applied to prevent the candidate from opening any other web browser.

Once the test is about to begin, the application asks the candidate to provide an identification proof. Sometimes, the candidates are asked to show an ID proof into the webcam while other times, the software makes use of a face recognition function. After the ID proof is given, the application requests the candidate to show his or her room to the camera where the exam is going to happen in order to prove that there isn’t any other person present in the room to help the candidate during the examination.

Another important fact that you should know about proctoring is that there are in total three types of it. And the candidate gets the chance to opt for one.

What are the different kinds of proctoring?

Below are the three types of online proctoring that we know of.

  1. Live Proctoring: When a qualified proctor monitors a candidate with the help of live video and audio feeds while he or she is taking the exam is referred to as live proctoring.
  2. Recorded Proctoring: When a proctor takes a look at the recorded video and audio feeds that is taken during the course of the examination is known as recorded proctoring.
  3. Advanced automated proctoring: In a case where there is no human intervention in the proctoring process and a software records a candidate’s activities to identify any malpractices through video and audio analytics is called advanced automated proctoring.
