Historically, this is the day to play practical jokes and truth be told, I’ve been known to be the catalyst of such pranks, albeit all quite innocent and in the name of good fun.

April Fool’s Day is said to have been started by a simple case of a delayed communication. It seems that a new year was once celebrated in early April. However sometime in the 1500’s it was changed to January 1 by decree.

Back in the day, with communication at literally a snail’s pace, it could take years for news to reach everyone. And so it was the case in learning of the decree that New Years Day had been changed to January 1; rendering those who continued to celebrate in April labeled as “fools.”

It’s hard today to imagine waiting for any piece of communication with so many vehicles to drive it. I remember when searching for a  job involved knocking on doors asking for an application and a moment to speak with someone. I’m relieved those methods have gone aside and the day of the recruiter is here. They have so many open doors at their disposal; it’s hard to imagine trying to search for employment without one at my side.

Hopefully the day will never happen when I have to go on the job hunt again. If it does, April or not, I will have a recruiter by my side and be a fool no more.
