What's that line about the best laid plans?

I knew China might block Gmail, but who knew it would block RecruitingBlogs?

Guess Jason's a more dangerous guy than we thought--or maybe it's Animal they're worried about. Whatever the case, I'm in Bangkok now so I'll be putting up posts from the last few days over the next few days.

Thanks for your patience. They'll be worth the wait.

Here's how recruiting works in Phuket, Thailand.
Manual labor is done by Burmese immigrants; work permits are hard to come by for foreigners, so if you want to work, the best thing to do is set up your own company.
There are a few natural resources here in. Most of the money comes from foreign investment and tourism.

Thanks for the comment, Jonathan. The client I'm here for is large and hires locally, so no worries on the permit front. What I'm particularly interested in is understanding how fierce the contest for jobs in the real economy is and the degree to which once one's in, one's able to switch jobs without penalty.
