Did you know that when you see a job advertised in the paper, it is usually too late. What I mean is simply that you will become one of many who apply to the opening.
I heard recently that a Human Resources Manager role attracted close to 200 resumes. I am not saying that this way can’t work; however your odds decrease dramatically. My tip is to create your own job. What I mean by
this is to get your credentials in front of the main decision makers before the job is released into the job marketplace. How does one do that? Networking and making those key connections can cause your
credentials to get into the hands of the key decision makers at the right time.

Let me give you a personal example. This goes back to 2001. I was on the job market for 3 months and hunting the best way that I knew how. One day, I went to an interview downtown Toronto. As I was going up in the elevator, I met a fellow that I had worked with before. We exchanged small talk then I asked where he was working now. He mentioned that he was working for this software company. When I had mentioned that I was in between jobs, he took my resume and indicated that they might be looking. The next day, I received a call from HR and the rest was
history as I obtained a lucrative 6 month contract that was very timely. Keep networking and make those connections because you never know where they may lead. Happy Hunting!
