So day 2 main sessions, included “Learn From your Mistakes” by Jenny DeVaughn and “From E! To Google: Missteps, Metrics and Methods” by Maisha Cannon.
First up “Learn From your Mistakes” by Jenny DeVaughn. This was about Branding, and focused on learning from past mistakes, and about being the type of person you want to be. IT also focuses on how going beyond the basics or what is simple works.
Next up came “From E! To Google: Missteps, Metrics and Methods” by Maisha Cannon. In this session Maisha states you need to go beyond what’s simple to find what’s best. She explains being the first to reachout is a good thing. Example: when you search in Linkedin look at those who joined most recently first. When writing a Job Description think of it in terms of what they will do and who they are. A little like personas. She goes on to discuss the importance of the intake meeting. Some of the questions you should ask your hiring manager such as, What makes this opportunity compelling?
Tool time use Google Alerts to help you track things such as hackathon winners. Tool Time Google timer can time how long it takes you to do a given task, this can help with time management. Then came the biggie Personalization of messaging.
