How do we make a difference as a recruitment consultant?

Recruiting is tough especially when the job market forces vary based on the economic conditions of the country. The year 2008 was the beginning of global recession that is slowly tapering off now, though not completely over as yet. Unfortunately, most of the developing countries depend on the state of economy in the developed world. Oh! Did I say that? Well, I agree India is insulated and is maintaining a robust growth rate of 8.5%. But, many FDI projects that were to get into India have stopped or got stalled/ delayed and this has lessened opportunities of recruiting for new business ventures. Having said that, the times are changing and hiring has started again though in a smaller measure.

In addition, due to this ‘price-controlled-by-economy’ environment, many organizations have opted for corporate recruiting (Internal recruiting), mainly in much larger organizations, hoping to cut down recruitment costs. Why such an option does not work so well as agency recruiting? Firstly, the recruitment overheads are more than they are believed to be; when you employ your own recruiters. The infrastructure has to be set up. You need to put them on your pay roll and write out a pay check every month irrespective of results achieved or not. Especially so, if you desire to employ the best in the profession! Incentive plus salary – as a remuneration option – can only trim down costs but cannot ensure performance because the remuneration is not really enough to motivate. In contrast, Agency recruiters are much more motivated since they are running their own businesses. The sense of business ownership naturally makes them more committed too. They are ready to meet high stress levels since it is directly related to handsome earnings. At the end of the day, everyone likes to be his own boss ! Right from the stage of pipe-lining candidate prospects, screening, interviewing, recruiting, on boarding to ensuring retention – the agency recruiter is more involved.
