The first step in using "Big Data" is to actually collect the data. 90% of recruiters fail to take this first step. Instead, they spend their time insulting those that do. I'll watch them slowly go out of business, I suspect.
You hit the nail on the head Nicholas. Whining about the guy who raises his hand to say "wait, what do the numbers say" doesn't get it done.
Katrina, my strength is more on the data-gathering side than the analytics, but I love the analytical process, as well... It takes both sides to maximize the obvious great value of Big Data, though. One without the the other is mostly useless. Good point!
