Instagram's API: What It Means For Recruiting

Instagram has a new API. Now, I'm confident that most people in the recruiting industry go "oh, ok" and move on because it just doesn't really matter to their recruiting and employee engagement efforts.

Yet.

This API is an indicator that maybe we should start paying attention to how we can reach our audience on Instagram; we don't have to let the marketers have all the fun. Remember, with the financial backing and big data that comes from being owned by Facebook, Instagram has huge potential to become a top 3 social platform with the likes of Twitter and Facebook not only as far as revenue but as a social recruiting platform, too.

I've gone back to the video blog to quickly explain more about the API, how you can create content that works on Instagram and how to be found on this new social platform down to being strategic about the name of your account.

If you have had a great experience recruiting on Instagram or have a question, post a comment here or reach out on Twitter @KatrinaKibben and let's talk.

Great news, too bad Instagram API is still not open enough to allow posts scheduling without notifications or other mockup solutions ( however http://schedugr.am/ claim they can do it, but I've not tried it yet)

A way to showcase your company culture on Instagram is to use a special hashtag for that. For example employees of Zappos use #insidezappos and LinkedIn #linkedinlife from their personal accounts. You can use Instagram API to create a stream or photoblog on your company website from that hashtag. :)

I heard Hootsuite has full access to the API for scheduling now, might be worth a shot.

And good call on the special corporate culture hashtag - great idea to be able to track all of your activity on employee channels and easily build recap reports or even use the info for candidate engagement.

I tested Hootsuite today, they still schedule posts with notification basically on the same principle as Latergramm. Let's hope they'll launch automatic posting soon :)
